Gorilla Run Austin: Where It's Ok To Act Like You Were Raised in a Zoo

While there is some weird stuff that goes gallivanting through the streets of downtown Austin, it would be a safe assumption to say that packs of hundreds of gorilla clad humans running about would turn even the most oblivious of heads. Gasp! Is that a challenge? Perhaps that’s how it started but while the Austin Gorilla Run is not just a great idea, it’s about to become a reality in Austin.

The race takes place amidst the gleaming scenery that is downtown Austin on January 22 beginning at 9:00 am. Here’s five delightful basic facts you need to know about why you ought to participate in this specticle:

1. You get to run off your holiday/New Year’s debauchery over the 5k course and get a start on trimming down that tushy.

2. Proceeds go to benefit mountain gorillas

3. You get to keep your gorilla suit which, in our opinion, counts as facts 3, 4, AND 5 because it’s wildly hilarious and could serve you well come April Fool’s day. Not that we condone jumping out from under your boss’s desk in a gorilla suit shaving a year or so off their life but if you feel compelled to do so, you’ll have the outfit.

4. There is an afterparty with lunch provided at Fado Irish Pub.

5. Tunes shall be provided by Achachay!

Other noteworthy mentions include the fact that you can enter as a team! A gaggle of ninja gorillas? Why not? An investment banker gorilla fleet? Bring it on. There’s an award for the biggest team so get those co-workers excited or the neighborhood kiddies pumped. It’s open to all ages and the more furry humans running about, the merrier. Also, since it’s the dead of winter your suit can keep you totally toasty warm. Perfect planning.

Do512 is a proud sponsor of this event and we would sincerely suggest that you bring your cameras to this bout of Saturday morning exercise. Register now to ensure that you get your suit on time! You wouldn’t want to miss out on an opportunity because you “monkeyed around.” Ah come on surely you knew you weren’t getting out of here without that being dropped.

Social media gorillas are always welcome in these parts. Check out the gorilla gang’s Facebook and Fan Page. Now for the real important stuff…where can we find a fleet of running bananas?
