It’s no stretch of the imagination to call The Black Angels one of the hardest working bands in Austin. They tour relentlessly, keep a strict practice schedule when they are at home, and in their down time the band helps book, promote, and produce their own multi-day music festival known as Austin Psych Fest. 2010 was a particularly big year for The Black Angels, as they released their third full-length album Phosphene Dream, produced and mixed by Dave Sardy (Oasis, Wolfmother, Black Mountain) and released by Blue Horizon Records. Initially debuting the album at Austin Psych Fest 3 in April, the band then supported the album with a world tour that included stops at the Reading and Leeds festivals in the UK, and the highly coveted Jim Jarmusch curated stage at All Tomorrow’s Parties in New York City. The Black Angels also made their network television debut in 2010, performing their single “Telephone” on The Late Show with David Letterman in September. After spending just a few weeks at home they are now back out on a European tour, but will perform a handful of shows in Austin during SXSW and will of course be performing at their fourth annual Austin Psych Fest, which will take place April 29-May 1st.

Do512 was thrilled when The Black Angels agreed to play our second ever taping at the Do512 Lounge on January 30th. Complete with our ever favorite beverage of choice, Shiner, and food courtesy of our friendly neighbors at Black Sheep Lodge, the Sunday taping was absolutely phenomenal for both us at Do512 and all of our guests. As always, we couldn’t do what we’re doing without our awesome partners at Austin Music Weekly.
