There is a lot of fun ahead this weekend on the East Side’s Hotel Vegas, and we are giving away tickets for every night! First, tonight funky soul songwriter Mia Borders from New Orleans is headlining. Her show is guaranteed to be a dance fest, and her voice reminds me of one of my favorites, Grace Potter. Mia, a nominee for Best Emerging Artist at the Big Easy Music Awards who has shared the stage with names like Big Sam’s Funky Nation and Corinne Bailey Rae, is another reason why Austinites should feel lucky that we live so close to New Orleans and that city’s talent makes it up here pretty often.
Opening tonight is Austin’s Cari Hutson and Good Company. They, like Mia Borders, feature an amazingly soulful female singer, and there are some nasty guitar riffs. I think I’ll include a video of theirs here too:
Doors for this show tonight are at 8 with the show starting at 9, and you can enter to win free tickets here
Tomorrow night, Austin veterans Deadman take the Hotel Vegas stage with their trademarked Texas rock sound. These guys have recorded 4 albums since their start in 1999 and continue to rock the live music capital all the time. Check out this video of them at the Saxon Pub:
Also playing tomorrow is Austin country four-piece Crooks. They have a guy who throughout the show, will play mandolin, banjo, trumpet, and guitar. Cool. You can get event details and sign up for free tickets for this one too.
Rounding out the weekend is a show headlined by local funky southern rockers Mudphonic that is definitely gonna make you sweat. Mudphonic has some awesome, gritty slide guitars and singer/harmonica/sax/guitarist Topaz McGarrigle has shared the stage with Norah Jones, TV on the Radio, and Widespread Panic (WSMFP!!). Trust me, these guys are good.
Also playing Hotel Vegas Saturday are Austin’s Nameless Horses and jam band The Trim, with members from our favorite local Dead cover band, Deadeye. Get your free tickets here, folks! And remember, what happens at Hotel Vegas…
