Party With The Gipsy Kings, Latin Style

Celebrate Latin culture and heritage with the Gipsy Kings on Cinco De Mayo (May 5) at The Backyard. The Gipsy Kings are taking a break from their lives in southern France for a short three month tour in the U.S.

The band has an interesting background which always makes for great musical influence. The members consist of the Reyes (Nicolas, Canut, Paul, Patchai, Andre) and the Baliardos (Tonino, Paco, Diego). The Reyes and Baliardo boys were the offspring of Spanish gypsy families that had fled into France to escape Spain’s Civil War. They grew up roaming the south of France, working harvests and making music.

In 1987 the Gipsy Kings introduced the world to ‘rumba Gitano’ – the sound of South America’s rumba rhythm married to flamenco guitars. Their Latin sounds make for easy dancing and good times.

The Gipsy Kings have recently worked on a few side projects where they recorded a version of “You Got A Friend In Me” for the movie Toy Story 3, and contributed music for Zorro the Musical.

Catch the Gipsy Kings playing all their classics at The Backyard at Bee Cave Saturday May 5th. Doors at 6pm, show at 9pm. Purchase tickets at www.thebackyard.net and click “I Like It” on the Do512 page for a chance to win free tickets.
