Sorry, this post actually has nothing to do with Ryan Gosling. But it does involve puppies. Now that I have your attention, please read on to see how you can help little puppies (and kittens!) all over Austin simply by going to a fun show at Gypsy Lounge.
On Saturday, April 28th Gypsy Lounge is having a benefit show to help raise money for Austin Pets Alive! Admission is $5 and you must be 21+ to attend. There will be $5 gift card raffles, as well as a raffle giving away an Ibanez guitar (tickets for the guitar raffle will be $10). “Rockin’ for the Pets” buttons will be sold for $1 each, so stock up for your friends and family! Best of all, 100% of proceeds from this benefit will go to APA! Cash donations, pet food and supplies will also be graciously accepted. This is a fantastic cause and well worth the money you can spend on raffles or any cash donations you can afford. The show begins at 4pm and lasts till midnight on Gypsy Lounge’s backyard stage, featuring Anti-Climax, We Paint the town and more (see below for full lineup details). If you haven’t been yet, we promise you’ll love the laid back atmosphere it provides – shady trees, string lights, picnic tables and a food truck! There you have it, all the charms of the east side and a great cause to support.
Austin Pet’s Alive! is dedicated to a simple mission: to “promote and provide the resources, education and programs needed to eliminate the killing of companion animals.” As a valuable asset to the Austin community, APA! has become a force of charity and awareness, bringing the cuteness where ever they go, and dedicating their time and energy to finding “forever homes” for dogs and cats who would otherwise be euthanized – all of the animals at APA! have already been passed over by other groups and the Austin shelters’ adoption programs.
They rescue the pets who have no other options, and are determined to find the right forever home for every last dog and cat they take in. They also provide necessary veterinary services for the animals as well as a parvo program for infected puppies, and the Bottle Baby Nursery Program which is a “creative approach to saving an entire class of especially fragile, homeless animals… targets orphaned, unweaned kittens fated for euthanasia.” Through a vast network of volunteers, foster homes, fund raising, donors, and the many special folks who adopt a pet through the nonprofit, APA! is able to save thousands of animals each year.
Their 2012 goals include finding a new permanent building (which will allow them to save even more animals!), assist Austin Animal Center with making Austin a No Kill City while expanding toward meeting their goal of a No Kill Central Texas, expand outreach efforts to assist and train other shelters in the US, host another national no-kill conference, and continue to build their dog behavior program so that they can save and rehabilitate all non-dangerous dogs with behavior issues.
