Nappy Roots w/ Phranchyze @ Antone’s 4/25

Nappy Roots is the epitome of Southern rap and hip-hop. The group formed in 1995 in Kentucky but came onto the national scene in 2002 with the release of their multi-platinum album “Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz.”

Since then they’ve released four albums and have continued to tour extensively across the U.S.

For their most recent album Nappy Roots partnered for the first time with legendary producers Organized Noize, an Atlanta-based hip-hop production company. Organized Noize has an impressive history of tracks that they’ve collaborated on, including TLC’s “Waterfalls” and Outkast’s entire “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik” album.

The Nappy Roots and Organized Noize partnership is even represented in the album’s title “Nappy Dot Org,” which stands for Nappy Roots.Organized Noize.  The collaboration allowed both Nappy Roots and Organized Noize to be more creative than ever and has resulted in an album that fuses each groups’ respective musical identities into one incredible experience.

The album’s sound truly represents “everything that has created the South’s musical legacy, from the church organs to the heavy base.”

Check out “Hey Love” from their newest album. This track is just one example of the incredible depth that Nappy Roots has accomplished in “Nappy Dot Org.” :

Best of all, this Wednesday, April 25 Nappy Roots are bringing their new tracks and signature Southern sound to the Antone’s stage.  Austin is the “Live Music Capitol of the World” for a reason. In this city we love all kinds of live music, but there is a definitely soft spot in our heart for all things Southern. Nappy Roots are sure to put on an awesome performance that will show off what the South and Southern hip-hop are all about.

Opening for Nappy Roots will be Phranchyze, an Austin local. Phryanchyze has gained notoriety for his “hilarious, quotable, caffeine-and-purp fueled rampage through underground rap battles” throughout the country. However, he also has produced some seriously sick music that has allowed him to tour with Kid Cudi, Big Boi, and more awesome artists.

Seriously, could this show sound any better? At 8 p.m. the doors of Antone’s will open and at 9 the place will be overtaken by Nappy Roots and Phryanchyze’s sick sounds. Trust us, you don’t want to miss out on this one.
