If you’re a movie buff and you take the quality of your movie watching experience seriously, you can count on one place to present motion pictures with the integrity they deserve. Especially cinematic classics! That place is (obviously!) the Alamo Drafthouse.
One thing to especially respect about Drafthouse is the pre-movie warning which threatens to boot any distracting, obnoxious or technologically-addicted customers. Who enjoys the peripheral glare of your neighbor’s cell phone during an enthralling action sequence? Not I. Probably not you. Boo.
The point being that Alamo Drafthouse respects your movie watching experience, and treats the films themselves with they respect they deserve. To that effect, that’s why the Ritz is hosting a 70 mm film series. If you’re a dork like me, you know why Panavision 70 is exciting. If you’re not, that’s cool too. Drafthouse provides a legit explanation of why you should care what format movies are screened in.
Suffice to say that viewing a 70mm movie the way it was meant to be viewed is a vastly different panoramic experience to see on the big screen. Enjoy cinematography at its fullest! Seriously, it makes a world of difference to the whole experience. Check out this picture:
Gorgeous, right? Speaking of which, the next movie to be screened in 70mm format just so happens to be West Side Story. Watch The Sharks snap at The Jets in truly vibrant, larger than life format! When was the last time you caught this flick? It’s a true classic of cinema, beautifully shot, sure to blow your childhood memories outta the water.
This movie will be screened at the Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz starting Friday, August 24 at 3 p.m. through Tuesday, August 28.
