The formation of Austin’s own Uncle Lucius was an act of fate. Like the story so often begins, frontman Kevin Galloway uprooted his East Texas life with not much more than a pickup truck and a guitar to find his way in the musical capital of the world. After making the open-mic circuit for several years, Galloway collided with bassist Hal Vorpahl, a country boy with similar aspirations. The band began to take shape when lead guitarist Mike Carpenter entered the picture. Raised on rock and roll, he then transformed the group into a southern rock outfit with an Austin blues undertone. The addition of a keyboardist and drummer solidified and gave focus to Uncle Lucius.
As the release for the third studio album, And You Are Me, nears, the band defines their sound and comes into their own light. Each musician just so happens to be a lyricist as well, each bringing songs to the table on past records. The cohesiveness of this new record is the direct result of collaborating on songwriting for the first time. The new album will be available everywhere on August 28th, although you can get a sneak peak and place your pre-order now.
To kick of this momentous occasion, Uncle Lucius is releasing their long-awaited record at none other than the famed Antone’s Nightclub on Aug 25, where exclusive fan bundles, including autographed copies of the CD and access to their soundcheck, will be available. Joining in the festivities will be local favorites Not In The Face and Whiskey Shivers. Come celebrate the hometown release of the new album and the commencement of a lengthy promotional tour. Word on the street is that the awesome horns section will be backing Galloway’s infamous hippie dancing.
