Yelawolf, Kreator, & Accept at Emo’s

While we miss the Emo’s on Red River for sentimental reasons, it’s hard to deny that the new location isn’t pretty awesome. It may be a bit farther out, but it has more free parking and the larger size has helped them to get bigger bands to come through, making for weekends where you can see more friendly buzz bands rather than underground rap or thrash metal. This is not one of those weekends. Rather, this is the kind of weekend for “adventurous” music fans only, the kind filled with caution signs that more often than not make for shows to remember.

Kicking off the weekend is the 32 year old rapper Yelawolf, one of the fastest rising southern rappers around. Featured on XXL’s top freshman rappers of 2011, Yelawolf has been making waves as one of the freshest young rappers to come out of the South alongside Big K.R.I.T. and Gucci Mane. His debut album featured production from Diplo, Justice, as well as guest spots by Killer Mike and Eminem. He’s cut his teeth on great tracks like Big Boi’s “You Ain’t No DJ” and his own “Pop the Trunk” and “Hard White” with Lil Jon. His style is a signature southern one with a hard hitting flow perfect for partying. You can’t go wrong catching one of the best new rappers around Saturday night, 9/29 at Emo’s with Rittz, Trouble Andrew, and DJ Vaira opening.

The next night is Sunday, a quiet night when most people stay in and relax before the week do that. You won’t want to do that though, because you’ll be too busy going hard at one of the craziest thrash metal shows you’ll see all year. Not for the faint of heart, Emo’s has put together an insane lineup for the night led by German heavy metal bands Kreator and Accept. Kreator formed in Essen, Germany in 1982 and have been systematically melting faces off for around 30 years now. To describe their style as brutal would be a drastic understatement.

Yeah, it’s pretty intense. Playing with them is another intense German metal band who have been around for 30 years and have sold millions of albums worldwide. Accept may be veterans, but don’t think they’re too old to rock your face off. Rather than slow down, they released a new album this year that charted in the top 10 over in Germany as one of the most hard-hitting heavy metal releases of the year. Filling out this wild lineup is the Finnish doom metal band Swallow The Sun and the Canadian death metal group Blackguard, rounding out a night that hardcore metal fans would regret missing. In fact, this whole weekend is going to be insane, which is why we’re giving away tickets to both shows. All you have to do is to click “Like” on these pages for your chance to win a free pair of tickets. If that hasn’t convinced you yet, then just watch this video of Accept’s hit 1984 single “Balls to The Wall” and tell us you’re not excited.

Yeah, that’s what we thought. See you there.
