Iration & The Expendables at Emo’s 11/01

This one’s going out to all my reggae fans in the building. Where y’all at? We’ve been searching far and wide for some kickass shows for y’all to hit up, and what we found is pretty sweet. The fine folks over at Domination are hooking Austin up with a show featuring not one, but two awesome headlining reggae/ska/punk/crazy cool acts. Hailing from the sunny beaches of California, both Iration and The Expendables are going to be bringing the fresh jams to Emo’s next Thursday night 11/01 for what is shaping up to be a great night full of good vibes.

First up, let me tell you why you’re going to love Iration. They may have gotten their big start in Santa Barbara, but all the members originally come from Hawaii, the lovely island from where the band obtained many of the influences behind their signature sound. Their music is a laid back blend of reggae and dub, with some forays into the chill aspects of surf rock. With two albums and three EP’s of ultra relaxing beach music including hits like the smooth “Timebomb” and “Cookie Jar“, which reached number one in Hawaii radio in 2008. With multiple tours under their belt opening for ska greats like Pepper, they’ve definitely become experts and creating stellar beach/ska music that will be perfect for chilling/skanking all night long. As a treat, here’s a great video of the group playing an acoustic version of their wonderful song “Falling”. They’re sure to have more energy with the full band live, but it’s a nice indication of how cool these guys are.

The other band headlining the night will be The Expendables, a reggae/ska group from Santa Cruz who have toured around the world with 311, Pepper, Slightly Stoopid, and Less Than Jake. After years of building up their fan base with great albums and big hits, they have reached a point where they can definitely be counted among those other groups as one of the leading ska/reggae bands around right now. In the past 15 years since forming, the group has released six stellar albums and thankfully show no signs of letting up anytime soon. Just check out how awesome some of these tunes are, such as “Bowl For Two” or “Sacrifice“, which was featured on one of the games in the Guitar Hero series (remember those?). They’re sure to be awesome live, and you’re not going to want to pass up this chance to see them.
This is a show that any serious fan of reggae and/or ska absolutely needs to be at. Just seeing either of these bands by themselves would be something to be excited about, but the chance to see both of them together is so kickass that there’s no way you can miss this. Opening the show will be another great reggae artist Cisco Adler, rounding off a great night. The best part is that you can win a pair of free tickets by liking this page! Make sure to be there, because it’s going to be a great night!
