Armadillo Christmas Bazaar – A Seasonal Celebration of Austin’s Distinctive Cultural Identity

There’s nothing like Christmastime in Austin, Texas.  December means chillier weather, gift giving, families getting together, and some good old fashioned homemade food!  And with the approaching of the holidays comes another great Austin tradition: the return of the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar, a thirteen day event showcasing amazing arts, crafts, music, and more!

Here in Austin, we do things a little differently, and the holidays are no exception.  Instead of typical Christmas shopping at the mall, the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar offers Austinites an alternative to the big crowds and run-of-the-mill gifts.  Whether its homemade crafts or locally made art, you’re sure to find something 100% Austin for your loved ones.  The plethora of live music and art have made the Bazaar an iconic holiday event in Central Texas, and this year promises to be bigger than ever!

From December 12 to the 24th the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar will open its doors daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the Palmer Events Center. The event will host more than 160 artists and artisans that’ll present their latest work for sale.

And in true Austin fashion, the event features some of the best local musicians performing, including Fastball, Del Castillo, Jimmy LaFave, The Eggmen, and many more!  Every day of the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar showcases a sampling of great Austin talent while you shop til you drop.  From singer-songwriters to rockers, from living legends to up-and-comers, like the Austin music scene itself, there will be something for everyone at the Bazaar.

If you’re looking for a different kind of shopping experience, and you want to buy your family and friends thoughtful presents, the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar is your best bet. There will be a wide range of gifts from over 160 vendors, from affordable to high end. It’s also probably the only holiday shopping experience where you’ll have the chance to grab a drink and dance while you’re browsing around.

Tickets are $5 before 7 p.m. on weekdays and $8 nights and weekends. Tickets are only sold at the door.

The bazaar will be at the Palmer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs Road, virtually across the street from the site of the show’s birthplace, the Armadillo World Headquarters. Parking is available in the Palmer Events Center/Long Center garage. For more info check out their website and for a list of the musical acts check out our Do512 listing!
