Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don’t forget your booties ’cause it’s cooooold out there today.
There may be many differences between Punxsutawney and Austin, perhaps the most stark distinction being that we don’t really have four seasons. Maybe two. Climate aside, it also isn’t fair to equate the two with regards to their entertainment values– Pennsylvania isn’t exactly a national hotbed for live music or rowdy nighttiming (though I’m sure a Quaker could school me in agrarian fellowship). So if your memories of 6th begin to amalgamate more than can be attributed to mere intoxication, a change of locality might be more appropriate than of locale. Don’t get me wrong, playing it Dirty can be a good time, but a little goes a long way.
Seasoned downtown aficionados know of the realms beyond East Sixth, and can attest that searching for that one sweet spot can bear fruit. Though idiomatic, walking down 4th on a Thursday night yields synethesia in that you can hear said fruit- namely The Fabulous Cherry Bombs. Sporting a new lineup and a residency at Cedar Street Courtyard, this foursome might be just what your penultimate weeknight needs. Self-described as funky angels… actually, this sentence is complete. There really isn’t anyway to top the grace of angels combined with the funk of Sly.
So, if you need to break up the monotony, head on down to Cedar Street Thursdays for cherry bombs and The Fabulous Cherry Bombs. With no further pondering your Thursday nights necessary, the only question left is whether this heat will continue into winter. Maybe Punxsatawney Phil could moonlight biannually…
