Silent City Limits Festival

It’s comin’ up on festival season y’all, and among the regs like ACL and Fun Fun Fun is one to dance to silently. That’s right — silently.

For those of you who haven’t heard about Silent Frisco –it’s a production company dedicated to solving the “noise problem” that comes along with loud music. At their parties you’ll get a set of wireless headphones so you can enjoy all the badass music, but people outside the venue don’t have to hear it too. This year they’re teaming up with Strangetribe and Soul of the Boot to bring a great freaking party.

OK, now that we’re all on the same page — here’s the nitty-gritty on what’s up for this year’s festival:

1. A bunch of talented mofos are DJing on two different channels. One of the channels will be strictly Austinites, called the ACL channel, and will include greats like DJ Manny, Orion, Chicken George, BigFace, Ram Z and Happy Happy James. The second channel, or the OCL channel, will include out-of-towners J.Boogie, Motion Potion, U9lift and Matt Haze from San Francisco.

2. Both nights, Oct. 12 and 13, the 21-and-up show starts at 10 p.m. and goes until sunrise! This isn’t a party to bring your parents to, unless they can hang until the crack of dawn that is. Alcohol will be served at TABC sanctioned bars at the festival, then after-hours, juice at the juice bars.

3. Though this show is at Pine Street Station, all proceeds will go to help Austin Enchanted Forest, a venue that’s been called a portal to a different world. There’s a small creek, art installations, people hula-hooping and spinning fire, and small lights everywhere. It’s really a magical place, and normally where this festival takes place, but it’s currently closed to the public. Hopefully that won’t be the case for much longer.

4. Finally, get your tickets here and get them now. Because of capacity restrictions, tickets are going to run out fast. They’re only $20!

MEAT and Greet at The Volstead Lounge Tonight!

Have you ever had goat? Well, if you haven’t (and that includes yours truly), you’re in luck! Tonight the International Food and Drink Society is hosting their inaugural Austin Chapter Meat and Greet. And since we’re all ready to kick off the summer, they’ve picked the finest bar around for Caribbean rum and cocktails.

The Volstead Lounge at Hotel Vegas will host an Island-Style Goat Roast, and the food is totally and completely 100% free, which, as we all know, makes it more delicious. That’s just science. Mark Meyer of designSTUDIO will be the king roaster, and there will also be roasted local corn and beans for the veggie-loving crowd. Once your belly is full, enjoy a Daiquiri, a Dark and Stormy, a Painkiller, or any other signature Caribbean cocktails from the new Volstead Lounge Rhum Bar while you dance your booty off to DJ Orion.

Don’t miss out on delicious goat and authentic Caribbean drinks tonight at the Volstead Lounge at Hotel Vegas! Check out more info on the event page at Do512.

Silent Southby @ Austin Enchanted Forest – Win Tickets!

It’s 2am, you’ve had a full day at this year’s SXSW, and the clubs are closing up but you’re not ready to go home just yet.  If you want to keep the party going until the sun rises, we have the perfect place to do so.  Austin’s infamous Enchanted Forest will be throwing three epic nights of parties, dubbed Silent Southby.  Sponsored by Silent Frisco, each attendee will get plugged into a pair of twin channel headphones and have an opportunity to dance the night away (without disturbing the neighbors).

If you’ve never attended an event at the Enchanted Forest, it’s something that you really need to experience first-hand.  Imagine a stage and dance floor set up in the middle of the woods, surrounded by crazy art installations, from large scale fine art and sculptures to unique garden structures.  And the whole place is lit up like a Christmas tree, with giant disco balls and multi-color lights hanging from the trees in every direction.  As someone who has been to many after hours parties, I can honestly say that there is nothing else quite like the setting of the Enchanted Forest.

As if that wasn’t enough, this year’s events feature an assortment of truly world class DJs and beat makers.  Performers range from turntablists like DJ Shortkut, Platurn, Ooah, and Mancub, to futurebass electronic producers like AnTenNae, Eliot Lipp, and Nico Luminous.  Tropicalistas like J. Boogie, Jeremy Sole, and Ocote Soul Sounds will be represented, as well as party rocking breakslingers like Lance Herbstrong, Motion Potion, Small Change, and Barney Iller.  Austin’s own local DJ community will also be in full effect, with the likes of DJ Manny, DJ Chicken George, and DJ Orion showing off their stuff.

Running from 10pm till sunrise on Saturday, March 10, Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17, these events will help to sustain and support Enchanted Forest’s year-round commitment to the arts.  Since there will be so many people in from out of town that week, it would be advisable to get your tickets in advance.  3 night and single night earlybird discount passes can be purchased here. Also, be sure to click “I Like It” on Do512 for a chance to win one of FOUR pairs of free tickets!  See you on the dance floor.
