Merch Girl Documentary KickStarter Campaign

John Evans Band is a staple in the Austin music scene.  He frequents any and every honky tonk that will have him.  His daughter, Abbie, is always by his side as his accomplice and merch girl.  Based on her fearless spirit, you might not ever know that Abbie was born with an incurable skin disease, Epidermolysis Bullosa.  This passionate spitfire compelled Austin-based producers, Cary Bell and Jessica Miller, to capture the inspiring life of a true fighter.

Abbie insisted that she go on the road at 15 years old.  With much hesitation, her mother, Stacie Evans, agreed to let her make her own decisions.  Music gave Abbie a fire and strength that no one could have predicted.  This empowering story is proof that you can live life on your own terms, no matter what obstacles you might face.  Everyone can relate to Abbie at 18- figuring out who you are and who you want to be, overcoming fear of the unknown, and struggling to just be normal.

This film is bound to be one of the best documentaries of 2013 when it hits the film festival circuit this year.  As the filming wraps up, Merch Girl needs your help with the finishing touches.  They have started a KickStarter campaign in hopes of raising enough funds to get Abbie’s story told.  What is all this KickStarter hoopla, anyway?  It is an online threshold pledge system for funding creative projects.  Here, your generous donations are rewarded based on the amount you contribute, like tickets to a private screening of the film and a concert featuring Hayes Carll.  As per Kickstarter regulations, if fundraising goals are not met by Aug 23, no money will change hands.

This event will take place at Antone’s on February 10th at 2pm.  Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with Abbie and the filmmakers.  Hayes Carll, John Evans, and Emily Bell will then perform in an intimate song swap.  Not only will people experience great music and a wonderful movie, but by purchasing a ticket, they will also be helping to finish the documentary and be ever connected to Abbie’s story.
