Bowling For Soup @ The Parish on Thursday 5/04

Writing one great album is hard enough.  But eleven?  Come on!  Very few other artists in the history of recorded sound have even dared to reach such a milestone.  Neil Young? Bob Dylan? The Stones?  Suffice it to say, the prolific Denton-based pop punk outfit Bowling for Soup is in good company.  Forming in Wichita Falls in 1994 from the ashes of an old metal band, BFS is defined by their often humorous lyrics, upbeat guitar riffs, and lead singer Jaret Reddick’s distinctive voice.

Bowling for Soup’s name is derived from comedian Steve Martin’s “Bowling for Sh*t” routine from his 1978 comedy album Wild and Crazy Guy.  The band is perhaps best known for their single “Girl All the Bad Guys Want” which was nominated for a 2003 Grammy Award for “Best Pop Performance by a Group or Duo”.  BFS is currently touring behind their 2011 album Fishin for Woos, which has been described as containing songs that are upbeat, uplifting, and cause listeners to spontaneously tap their feet.  It’s pop punk polish that unabashedly leans toward the poppier side of things.

Playing before Bowling for Soup is Mount Sinai, New York based pop punk band Patent Pending.  The band has been together since 2001 and has played hundreds of shows all across the United States, including going on the Vans Warped Tour and playing Bamboozle Festival.  The opening band Freshman 15 is known for their intricate harmonies and catchy rhythms.  The band has been heavily touring the Southeast with an infectious pop punk sound that has been known to energize crowds and leave you with a song stuck in your head.  So head over to The Parish on Thursday, May 3rd and get yer ya-yas out.  Be sure to click “I Like It” on Do512 for a chance to win a pair of FREE tickets!
