With the construction of the formula 1 race track in Austin, and the NCAA Sweet 16 being hosted in the Frank Erwin center this year, Austin is becoming more noteworthy than it already was among sports fans.
But did you know that Austin was already noteworthy among the world of Rollerderby fans?
The Texas Rollergirls is a non-profit organization that started in 2003. As the the only sports league of its kind, the Texas Rollergirls Rock-n-Rollerderby started today’s Flat Track Derby movement. Because of Austin’s local Texas Rollergirls there are now more than 300 Flat Track Derby leagues worldwide!
The Texas Rollergirls league has four home teams. The team names are Hell Marys, Hotrod Honeys, Honky Tonk Heartbreakers, and Hustlers. There is also a fifth team, comprised of all-star members of the four teams called Texecutioners. With quirky team names, why would you not want to see the Texas Rollergirls in action?
