Nada Surf Plays La Zona Rosa 6/29!

On June 29th, New York rockers Nada Surf will return to Austin, bringing their signature brand of indie pop to La Zona Rosa. Nada Surf have been penning sharp, brilliant alternative rock for two decades. You probably know them from their breakthrough hit “Popular” which was all over the radio in the summer of 1996.

The band has come a long way from that hit, and in the early 2000′s they transformed from a forgotten one-hit wonder to a brilliant indie pop band with a devoted fan base. Many of Nada Surf’s songs were featured on the hit teen soap The O.C. as well as How I Met Your Mother. The band garnered a large following and began to sell out shows all over the world.

Supporting Nada Surf will be WATERS, who put on a fantastic Lounge Session for Do512 a while back. Peep the video evidence below.

Delta Spirit @ Emo’s East 4/13

The San Diego rocker quintet Delta Spirit is no stranger to Austin, and have quite a nice  following here. After rocking this year’s SXSW Festival, Delta Spirit is back for more, with a show this Friday at the shiny, new Emo’s East. Something about Delta Spirit’s style is difficult to pinpoint, which is certainly a good thing – with rough piano amidst their full guitar sound, instrumental accompaniment on occasion and two drummers, the specific genre of Delta Spirit is ambiguous, but whatever type of musical hybrid they are, they rock hard. With a furiously quick pace, Delta Spirit tears through tunes that directly address personal situations like love, failed and long-distance relationships, and the future.

Delta Spirit’s lyrics are relatable, grounded and tend to take on the perspective of others, keeping their repertoire universal and not too self-focused. If anything, Delta Spirit keeps things really real. They’ve been described as Americana, folk, etc. – anything that sums up being wholesome and relatable in the sense of American culture. But, with Delta Spirit’s latest self-titled album out, which showcases a matured sound and modern stance, what we hear is certainly a fresh, cutting-edge new take on indie rock.

Go to a Delta Spirit show, and you’ll understand the passion that burns inside the group – they are explosive onstage and have this certain sort of angst that translates well into music. To see them perform at Emo’s East would be a great way to spend Friday night – the new Emo’s venue has state of the art equipment that makes bands sound completely awesome. There is plenty of space to rock out, and drinks aplenty!

Let’s not forget the opening act WATERS, a project formed out of inspiration from the wanderings of Van Pierszalowski. With their latest album Out In The Light recorded in Dallas, WATERS most likely has some emotional ties to Texas, which will surely make for an intense and emotionally raw performance. WATERS has a new sound that’s aggressive and loud, and an alternative side that is loose, airy and languid. Quite a nice combination.

Check out WATERS and Delta Spirit this Friday at Emo’s East, and be sure to enter on Do512 for a chance to win a pair of tickets!
